Football 2010

Introduction

The Central Coast Academy of Sports Football program is run in conjunction with the Central Coast Mariners Youth Academy. Whereby Scholarships and part-scholarships are awarded for athletes aged between 13 - 16 years via a trial process. There is three boys squads selected (14, 15 and 16 years) as well as a joint girls squad (consisting of athletes aged 13, 14, 15 and 16). All trials will take place at the Mariners Academy Field.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a Football scholarship in the Boys squads, athletes must be:

  • Male aged 14 (born in 1996), 15 (born in 1995), or 16 (born in 1994).
  • A current resident of the Central Coast.
  • Registered with Football NSW as an 'A' Grade player or equivalent in the relevant age group.
  • Registered and playing with a club within a Central Coast competition.

To be eligible to apply for a Football scholarship in the Girls squad, athletes must be:

  • Female playing in an under-14, under-15 or under-16 sanctioned competition.
  • A current resident of the Central Coast.
  • Registered with Football NSW as an ‘A’ Grade player or equivalent in the relevant age group.
  • Registered and playing with a club within a Central Coast competition.

Scholarships are not in the form of a monetary sum, but rather enable athletes to participate in the Academy program that includes practical training, educational workshops and competition opportunities (TBC). The Academy provides athletes with access to elite level coaches, analysis of technique, sports science testing, sport psychology, nutrition, awareness of drugs in sport, financial fitness seminars, and information on careers in Football.

Selection Process

Stage 1

Any player interested in trialing for the program must register their intent to trial by contacting the Central Coast Mariners at info@ccmariners.com.au on the requested date each year (around April / May).

Coaching staff will need the following details before any trial:
• Name
• Date of Birth
• Current Club
• Home address
• Contact phone numbers (Home and Mobile)
• Email address

Stage 2

The athletes will take part in a trial on the above listed dates at the Mariners Academy Field. Taking part in skills sessions as well as games to allow the coaching staff to get a full view of each and every player to make final selections for the squad.

Stage 3

There will be a final assessment of candidates and an announcement will be made of successful scholarship athletes. Those successful will be listed on the website and all applicants will receive a letter in the mail after the final cut to state whether they have been successful or not in their trials.

Athlete Commitment

Athletes will be accepted as a scholarship holder upon signing an athlete agreement to attend compulsory training/educational sessions as scheduled.
Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of scholarship and thereby all benefits associated with being a scholarship holder.
Only eligible athletes that can fulfill these commitments are encouraged to apply.
