On Wednesday, 8th Feb, the CCAS AFL squad were invited to not only train at GWS Giants HQ, but given full access to the facility and a chance to mingle with AFL and AFLW coaches and players.

To start the session, GWS Media and Marketing Coordinator Jacob Gaynor took the athletes for an in-depth tour of everything from the administration building to the ice baths and changerooms. Whilst weaving their way through the gym, newly appointed Senior Men’s Coach (2004 Premiership Player with Port Adelaide Power and Former Richmond Tigers Assistant Coach) Adam Kingsley, pictured below, stopped his workout to interact with players and coaches before returning to his session.

The group where then taken to the AFLW side of the building where they were greeted by AFLW Captain and Development Coach Alicia Eva (pictured below), who addressed the group in the auditorium, allowing the athletes a chance to ask questions and to gain a better understanding of the life of a professional athlete and coach. Another AFLW Star, Rebecca Beeson, also popped in at the end of her session to say hello and give a brief perspective on football life and being an athlete that has made the top grade from NSW.

Following this awesome experience, Families of the athletes were offered an opportunity to do a tour and watch the VFL Men’s program in action whilst the CCAS Athletes took to the field and had a solid hit out. To finish an already quality experience, (Giants No1 Draft Pick in Season 1) Nicola Barr (below),  joined the group to offer some fantastic advice, answer questions and encourage the group to have a quality sport/life balance.

The Athletes and families had a truly memorable experience, learning more about the professional pathway and lifestyle and the CCAS can’t thank the GWS Giants for their time and hospitality.
